The following information is printed
on the reverse of each replica:
Founded in 1914 by six Civic Club members, Newport Public
Library was first located in the director's office of the old Fourth
Street School building. In a triumphant celebration, the Newport Band
played while Mayor John S. Eby made the presentation of the new library,
and its 400 book collection, to Newport Borough. Over the years, the
library was housed in five more locations before the doors of its
permanent, and greatly expanded, home were opened to the public on
November 29, 1988. Today's library offers a collection of over 35,000
materials, as well as a growing variety of services and programs
designed to enrich the lives of area residents. The new brick building,
made possible through a generous gift from Philip and Carolyn Bosserman
and Charles and Gladys Bosserman, is located at 316 North Fourth Street.
