Oliver Township was created in 1837. It was formed from portions of Juniata, Centre and Buffalo Townships. Originally this township contained all the land of Howe Township and part of Miller. The township was named as Oliver, to further honor Oliver Hazard Perry, the county already using his surname.

Burning Ordinance: Burning is only permitted from 6 AM to 6 PM Monday through Saturday. No burning is permitted on Sundays. Permits Needed for Yard Sales: There is no charge for permits, but you must obtain a permit at the Township Building BEFORE the yard sale. Two yard sales per year are allowed. All unsold goods must be removed within 24 hours of the end of the sale. Only one permit is required for a community yard sale.
