July 1 - 14, 2007 is NPL's "Once in a Blue Moon" amnesty time! Bring those overdue books back anytime between July 1 and July 14, and pay no fine. While you're here, look around, and sign up for summer reading club, too. Programs and prizes and reading fun for all ages. |
Ride-to-Read 2007
Saturday, Sept. 29 is our 8th annual H. Ray Wertz Memorial Ride-to-Read at Little Buffalo State Park. The festivities start at 7:30 AM. Participating riders may choose from the 5K, 25K, 50K, or 100K rides, all starting and ending at the east end of the park, and concluding with a free lunch and 10 minute massage for those aching muscles. This year, Boy and Girl Scouts may count the ride as part of their bicycling badge, in conjunction with a bicycle maintenance program to be held June 9. Even if you've never been on a bike, you can be a "Ghost Rider, "and get the 2007 T-shirt while helping to support our library. Over the past seven years, 678 riders have raised over $45,000 to help support NPL! Visit the Web site, www.newportpubliclibrary.org.ride.htm or call the library for more information. |

Our heartfelt thanks to every one of our volunteers, who bring their laughter and the soul of the community with them when they arrive to work at the library. | Susan Connell was a long time board member of NPL, an avid reader, and a strong voice for support of public libraries in Perry County. She suffered for the past year from a rare form of leukemia, and it is with great sadness that we note her passing from this life on April 22, 2007. We will all miss her hard work, her quick wit, her great ideas, and her priceless friendship. |
