The Newport area has two historical societies:
1- The Perry County Historical Society is currently based at
the Blue Ball Tavern at Little Buffalo State Park. They are a traditional
historical society.
2- The Perry Historians have converted an old schoolhouse on
Rt. 34 between Newport and New Bloomfield for their use as a genealogy
research library, the Lenig Library.
Because the Perry Historians do such a wonderful job of taking care of the local genealogy information, Newport Public Library does not attempt to duplicate this service. Please do not contact Newport Public Library for genealogy records, or for requests for genealogy research. You will get great service from the folks at the Lenig Library.
