Buffalo Township was formed in 1799, named after the massive animal which once roamed its hills. It is composed of two valleys, Buck's and Hunter's, the former being two miles in width, and the latter being virtually a cove, tapering from considerable breadth at the east to almost a point at the west. The mountain separating the two valleys is known as Berry's Mountain (Hain, H. H., History of Perry County, 1922).
